Maneesh Gobin justifies his absence at the 18th G20 summit in India. Speaking to the press on Friday, September 15th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs cited several reasons, including the fact that Pravind Jugnauth had been personally invited by his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, as a “Guest Country”. Maneesh Gobin emphasized that Mauritius is not a permanent member of the G20, which would explain his absence according to him.

Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the outcomes of the 18th G20 summit. He highlighted that the Chagos dossier was discussed during talks between Pravind Jugnauth and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak, thus announcing a new meeting between Mauritius and Great Britain. The Minister also pointed out that Mauritian citizens who were in Morocco at the time of the earthquake have already returned safely to their home country.
