The Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) has officially designated Avineshwar Dayal as its candidate for the by-election in constituency No. 10 (Montagne Blanche/Grande-Rivière-Sud-Est). His candidacy was confirmed this Wednesday evening, July 10, by Maneesh Gobin, during a convention of the Soleil party held in Caroline.

The choice of Avineshwar Dayal's candidacy for this by-election at No. 10 was made after consultation between all the leaders of the parties forming part of the government alliance, specified Maneesh Gobin, Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General of the MSM.

Avineshwar Dayal, a lawyer with fifteen years of experience at the bar, and son of former minister Raj Dayal, joined the ranks of the MSM on May 1. His presentation as a new member of the party took place during a meeting in Vacoas. Since then, he has gained visibility within the party and has positioned himself as an active member, ready to represent the MSM in this constituency.

There is a vacant seat in this constituency after Vikram Hurdoyal resigned as MP in February following his dismissal as Minister of Agro-Industry.

The Nomination Day for this election is scheduled for July 11, 2024 while the by-election – if it takes place – will be held on October 9, 2024. This by-election may also not take place as there is always the possibility that Parliament will be dissolved before October 9 for the holding of the general election.
