The opposition Labour Party/MMM/New Democrats will indeed participate in the debates on the Constitution Amendment Bill and the Political Financing Bill in the National Assembly tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July. However, it will vote “against”. This was the announcement made by MP and PTr president, Patrick Assirvanden, at the end of the parliamentary committee meeting this Monday afternoon.

According to him, the bill on the financing of political parties is “poorly put together, poorly prepared and contains things that are left unsaid”.

The lack of consultations and the fact that this bill is presented on the eve of the general elections are also criticized.

In a statement to RadioPlus this afternoon, Patrick Assirvaden emphasizes that the opposition is in favor of a good reform concerning the financing of political parties, but not this bill in its current form.

It should be noted that this bill may not be adopted without the opposition, because the three-quarters majority required to amend the Constitution may not be reached.
