The total market capitalisation of the Mauritius Stock Exchange now stands at Rs 342 billion, with the introduction of Emtel. A ceremony was held on 5th July at the Hennessy Park Hotel to mark the event.

Emtel's contribution to the Mauritius Stock Exchange is not insignificant. It amounts to Rs 10.7 billion. Thus, the total market capitalization is 53% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Mauritius.

According to Sunil Benimadhu, Chief Executive of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM), the arrival of Emtel also brings immense value to the SEM. It broadens the depth and diversity of the stock market. “I would like to congratulate Emtel on this significant step. At the Stock Exchange of Mauritius, we are very pleased with the arrival of Emtel on our market. This allows us to offer our investors a wider range of investment products, particularly in the technology sector. We wish Emtel all the best,” he stressed during his speech.

For his part, Emtel Chairman Bashir Currimjee made it clear that this IPO is a testament to the trust of Emtel's shareholders, partners and customers. “We are grateful to all our investors, from individuals to institutions. This is a responsibility we take very seriously. We remain committed to honouring this trust,” he said.

In addition, Emtel is continuing its strategic initiatives. According to its president, this launch positions Emtel to create significant long-term value.
