French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday asked his Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who came to present his resignation, to stay “for the moment in order to ensure the stability of the country”, the presidential palace announced.

“He thanked him for the European and legislative election campaigns that he led,” added the presidency the day after the second round of the legislative elections marked by the victory of the union of left-wing parties ahead of the presidential camp and the extreme right.
