The textile factory responsible for the discharge of heavy oil into a waterway in Pointe-aux-Sables has been fined Rs 25,000.

Chief Inspector Jean Nobin Brasse of the environmental police said the offender also hired a company to clean up the area. At this point, more than 95% of the spilled oil has been removed, he said.

The Ministry of the Environment, for its part, indicates that no organic components have been detected in the air.
