Huawei’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training programme continues in Mauritius. DigiTalent 3.0 is now targeting 4,000 new Mauritian beneficiaries over the next four years. The announcement was made on Wednesday 10 July 2024 during a ceremony at the Suffren Hotel, Port-Louis, in the presence of Pradeep Roopun, President of the Republic, Deepak Balgobin, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, and Zhu Liying, Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius.

The 4,000 Mauritian beneficiaries will be trained through the Huawei ICT Academy, Huawei's Seeds for the Future program, training for civil servants, courses for entrepreneurs and technology skills development for the general public. Students are mainly targeted, because in addition to contributing to the development of know-how in the country, the program allows the Chinese firm to detect new talents.

According to Zheng Kui, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Huawei Mauritius, to date, the firm has collaborated with more than 2,600 universities worldwide, including seven in Mauritius, to train 200,000 students. In addition, 35 instructors, as well as more than 350 students have benefited from Huawei training in Mauritius. Four young Mauritians recently participated in Huawei’s LEAP Summit in China. They are the four winners of the local edition of the Chinese firm’s Seeds For The Future competition.

“The government’s commitment to improving digital infrastructure is crucial to attract investments and create an enabling environment for ICT-driven businesses. I am happy to see global players like Huawei supporting this national talent creation initiative by training our workforce and increasing their employability,” commented Pradeep Roopun.

“Mauritius has always been a pioneer in regional innovation. Our strategic investments in ICT infrastructure, coupled with our commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy, have laid a strong foundation for our digital future. Continuous training and upskilling are essential. Huawei’s talent ecosystem is a shining example of how we can work together to build a thriving ICT talent pool in our country,” said Deepak Balgobin.
