With the main opposition bloc in the House of Commons by-election in No. 10 (Montagne-Blanche/GRSE) absent, the mood for Nomination Day was expected to be dull, with a one-sided demonstration by the government and its candidate Avineshwar Dayal. However, there were some highlights during the filing of nominations at the Bel-Air SSS on Thursday. For example, independent candidate and Trou-d'Eau-Douce village councillor Jonathan Dardenne was greeted at the filing centre by sega dancers, which created a certain excitement around the Bel-Air SSS. Earlier, the MSM candidate had arrived, accompanied by a few ministers and headliners from the Soleil party and representatives of the MSM's partners in government, as well as supporters of this party, unfurling a large banner.

The folkloric side was respected with a good dose of independent candidates, notably 11 out of the 16 registered. Linion Moris, who presents himself as the main opposition force in this by-election, organized a parade with the participation of its members to accompany the candidate Neena Ramdanee.

About twenty minutes before the closing of the application center, former MP Cehl Meeah arrived to register his candidacy. The leader of the Mauritian Solidarity Front was accompanied by a few supporters.

At 3pm, when the submission of applications ended, the police took stock of the situation, stating that everything had gone calmly. A look back at Nomination Day in pictures.
