Possibly a weird question but…
Is it ok to eat salad and fruits and have ice in drinks … or should we be very strict about water consumption? ๐Ÿง๐Ÿค—

Donโ€™t drink from the tap, as water is often polluted by ground water entering the system through leaks or stored in tanks for a time.

Weโ€™ve had fruit/salad and ice in drinks with no issues, but sadly we are now at the airport on the way home ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Water is ok on the sanitary level in Mauritius. Being sensitive myself, I buy bottled water or drink boiled water but I have never encountered health issues upon buying stuff from street sellers

I’m just getting over having Campylobacter, one of my plane journeys included me having a very high fever and being on oxygen and my second day home I was in hospital, with the following week having trips to doctors and hospital most days. Most likely caused by poultry, but could be caused by untreated water โ€“ just make sure you drink the bottled water, and use it to brush your teeth with etc! I’m sure you’ll be fine, I think I’m just lucky ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The quality of water in Mauritus is higher than a lot EU countries. There is an issue about distribution but not on quality even though it is advised to boil water after heavy rains. But Iโ€™ve not done that for years and never got sick. You should be fine

No issues with Mauritian water. It is filtered and properly treated from reservoir. It is also soft water ( not hard water). The only times we have to boil water before drinking is after heavy rainfall- but thatโ€™s same in the UK.
Regarding campylobacter and the likes, it could happen anywhere- just bad luck I guess.
But of course, you would want to be careful if you see lots of flies etcโ€ฆ.

I’m currently in Mauritius been here 9 days no issues and been drinking their water from the tap, I’m from the Uk and there’s probably more chemicals added to our water than here
I drink lots of water as I’m not a tea or coffee drinker
Not had any tummy problems either and eaten various dishes from the local food trucks
Gotta say the fried noodles are my fav so far
Happy holidays ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

When first discovered by Arab Sailors back in 975, the island was called Dina Arobi. It was christened as Mauritius several centuries later when the Dutch Squadron landing at Grand Port in 1598 named it Mauritius in honour of Prince Maurice Van Nassau, stadtholder of the Dutch Republic
