I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good books about Mauritius in English - it's for a gift for a Mauritian-Australian friend who wants to learn more about his birth country.Ideally I'd like a good compact general history but I suspect that doesn't quite exist - Sydney Selvon's comprehensive history looks terrific but a bit too comprehensive for my purposes, and the others I've found look either old & colonial in their framing or a bit amateurish. There are some books that look very good about specific periods in history (spice route etc) but my friend mentioned that's not what he's after.I'm open to other non-fiction books that incorporate some history, like memoir or biography - or really any other great books about Mauritius that the good folks of this sub care to recommend!Many thanks
