QuestionsGeneral-MiscWhich motorcycle gloves for riding in Mauritius? Leather or textile?

Hi all I'm in expat in Mauritus who plans on getting a motorcycle (150CC Dirt bike). I'm currently in Canada so I'm buying some gear to bring back with me. I have no experience riding motorbikes in Mauritius so I'd rather ask the locals what is actually suitable for the weather. I have 2 choices, leather vs textile. Which one will be more suitable to keep cool? I'll be mainly riding off-road for adventure riding and live in La Gaulette (near Le Morne) if that matters.

Mauritius has many micro-climates, but they all have high humidity levels, especially in the centre where rainfall is high and by the coast (the sea!).

Anything leather, rubber or rubberised eventually deteriorates unless constantly used and maintained.

So really it doesn’t matter too much what you get so long as you maintain it and keep it as dry as possible when not in use.

Being on the coast I personally would go for the coolest option as La Gaulette gets hot… which I would imagine would be something lightweight and man-made.

Hope that helps 🙂

Three nations have over the years colonised Mauritius - the Netherlands (1638-1710), France (1715-1810) and Great Britain (1810-1968). It has remained independent since 1968.
