I'm flying from Australia to Mauritius and I have Australian dollars (AUD) on me. Can I use AUD in the duty-free? If not, can I convert the currency in the airport before the duty-free?

To my knowledge only € euros at duty free.

Before going through boarder control you can exchange your money at the airport (if you’re leaving Mauritius)

Just don’t bring foreign cash. Just take yr bank card and get local currency from the atm or pay with yr card. This is not 1950 πŸ™‚ — btw – there is no duty free shopping coming into a country. Only on board the airplane. Or when leaving a country.
