QuestionsMoney-ShoppingMauritius cash at airport
Anonymous asked 9 months ago

We are arriving on an early flight into Mauritius in a couple of weeks (can't wait😎🌞) there are many posts that say to get your Mauritius cash at airport, when you arrive.
I have three questions -
Is it just cash machines or a kiosk with humans πŸ˜‰?
What time does it open?
Is there always a queue?
Thanking you all in advance for any useful information. 😊

We only really take cash for tips and get it before fly as it’s not a huge difference 🀷‍♀️

Many banks are represented there with queue .

There are several kiosks manned by people at the airport. It was very quick and easy

Dave Ellis answered 9 months ago

Cash at the manned bureaus as you leave airport for best rate, there are a number of them and not a queue when we arrived from London a few days ago

Ian Head answered 9 months ago

Don’t just go to the first one ask them what rate is don’t get too much the rate back is lower

Sharon Barnes answered 9 months ago

If you want to use human kiosk you need to take cash to exchange as they don’t accept card. However there are atms outside gate 7 if you want to use card

You get a better exchange rate over in Mauritius than in your own country

Where is cash essential when exploring? I assume street stalls and markets only use cash, but do most restaurants and tourist attractions take cards, or is cash preferred? We will have our own car for transport. And tips in cash?
Any advice much appreciated- thank you.

I just withdrew at the airport from an ATM using my Revolut card. Through Revolut, there were no fees for the withdrawal, and the conversion rate was quite decent.
