QuestionsSports-ActivitiesSpecific activities in Grand Bay
Anonymous asked 9 months ago

My husband and I are currently in Mauritius and we have been informed that Grand Bay is the primary tourist spot. However, I am seeking advice on whether there are specific activities to engage in or if it is mainly a place for leisurely walks. I have heard varying opinions and would appreciate some guidance to make an informed decision. Thank you in advance! ☺️

Go for lunch or sunset drinks at the beach house…restaurant bar situated right on the beach.

Pop into Labourdonnais for a coffee and museum/fruit orchid visit.

Retail therapy at Le Creuset shopping mall.

The North has some of the best beaches…. Pereybere beach is exquisite. Boat excursions available from the shore as well as some water sports.

You can stop off at Pamplemousses on the way (botanical Gardens famous for their giant water lillies).

There is a completely different vibe in the North. It would be a pity not to experience it.

I personally think Grand Bay is one of the worst places to stay. Crowded. Traffic. Not good beach. Consider flicenflac. It’s quiet close to a lot of stuff great beach and more like the real Mauritius

Grand Bay is a place to enjoy the beach, shopping at the local market, some entertainment in evening at some karoke bar, or just walk around ‘Super U’ for window shopping, eat at the food court, some excitement at the casino etc. there are endless things you can do at Grand Bay that too without taking any taxi, just walk around 🤟😀

Grand Baie is worth a visit as part of a longer trip around the north. When we went, the national P’tanque finals were on which was fun to watch. Then later in the day flocks of cardinals were flying from tree to tree and back. It was random events like this that gave Grand Baie and other places the Mauritian magic!!!

It is a popular tourist area but like the whole island, once a small distance away you get to see the real Mauritius and what it’s really like for citizens

It takes 2 – 3 hours to drive from one side of the island to the other. Grand Baie is great ( local shops and restaurants) There are loads of other water things you can do ( catamarans , snorkelling, diving, tours Etc etc) also great to chill in the sun with a nice drink and a book.

Grand Bae is a good place to experience a touristy vibe, nice walks and plenty of restaurant and hotel options. A very active night life vibe too.

You should catch up all white sand beaches here like Grand Bae, La Cuvette, Pereybere and Mont Choisy, Trou Aux Biches.

Food options are plenty too. If you want Italian Indian lival cuisine.

And ofcourse a few good tours starting from Cap Meleraux. Good luck for your holiday

Mauritius is the main tourist area, just keep driving around, plan a day for each coast and see how different they all are. Look for eateries that have long queues and lots of local and meet Mauritius’ real treasure…. Its people

Not much to see and walk around inGrand Baie. 😂It´s basically a noisy road with over priced shops and restaurants.

You should definitely make a day trip on a catamaran from Grand Baie to Îlot Gabriel, a great experience which I never get enough of, even living here since for more than 10 years.
The trip costs about Rs1500/pers and includes a BBQ lunch buffet and open bar with soft drinks, bier, wine, rhum, punch, water of course, music…
The water at Gabriel island is just stunning.
They leave at 9 in the morning and return around 3 or 4pm for the sunset when you can hangout in grand baie.
I usually go with a company called Coral Belle but there are many other ones with the same principle.
Enjoy your stay in Mauritius 🏝️

Grand-Baie is popular for tourist but as a Mauritian, I would say you just walk around and see only a percentage of what Mauritius 🇲🇺 is about. Make the most of your holidays by getting a reliable taxi to take you to different beaches and areas or if you’re staying in Grand-Baie, you can even catch the bus and go to different beaches up that side in the North areas. Or if you’re driving, keep on driving from Grand-Baie, straight road takes you to Pérébère Beach (1 of the most loved beaches), la Cuvette, Bain Boeuf, Coin de Mire where the iconic red Church is.

Before Grand-Baie on the other side, you will find beaches such as Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy, Point aux Piments etc…..

And try getting a taxi to different parts of Mauritius (Central Port-Louis and surrounding areas). Go to the South of Mauritius where the beaches are not quite for swimming but the views are absolutely mind-blowing.

There are tons to do in Mauritius and lots of hidden attractions that only a taxi driver can take you.
