QuestionsWork-JobsIs it permissible for a company to refuse a yearly salary raise based on government salary benchmarks being deemed sufficient?
MindlessLex asked 2 months ago

I was talking to some friends and one mentioned that his company is withholding the yearly salary increase due to a larger-than-expected raise by the government. He believes the government increase compensates for the loss of purchasing power and should not impact his annual raise. I work in the public sector and find this reasoning unusual. Is this common in the private sector, especially for a large company like his in Mauritius?

The national drink is rum, as Mauritius has a number of working rum factories. The local specialities include vanilla, coffee, coconut, and even chilli-flavoured rum.
