A motion of censure will be presented by four councillors of the Rivière-du-Rempart district council against the president, Prembhoodas Ellayah, this Thursday. The motion will be presented at 2 p.m. The four district councillors criticize the president for not “commanding the majority”. A majority that is made up of… 22 councillors.

Reached by telephone, Prembhoodas Ellayah said: “They wanted to cause a sensation by presenting this motion of censure. But we must accept. 'Sa bann konseye-la pe anvi fatig mwa inpe. His mosion-la zis pou fer enn show-sa. Zot zalou. Samem tou,” he told Défi Quotidien on Wednesday evening.

As for the consequences if the censure motion is adopted, Prembhoo-das Ellayah remains calm: “It's simple. I will resign as president of the Rivière-du-Rempart district council. The decision is up to the council. For my part, I am confident in the quality of my work. »

Prembhoodas Ellayah also recalls that he is currently seeking his fifth term, which will end in December. His experience on the district council dates back to several periods: president from 1999 to 2000, then from 2003 to 2005, from 2017 to 2020, from 2020 (after the local elections of December 2020) to 2022, and finally since 2022 to this day.
