“It was correspondence between the organization and the company Hyundai Global Service Europe BV that allowed this fraud to be discovered.” Statement by Joe Lesjongard on Wednesday, July 10.

He was responding to a question from the press concerning the vagueness surrounding some Rs 12 million paid by the Central Electricity Board (CEB) to an international company.

The Minister of Energy was participating in the opening ceremony of the Mauritius Renewable Energy International Conference Emporwering Tomorrow. He said that the ongoing investigation will determine responsibilities.

The background to this case is a contract awarded by the CEB to Hyundai Global Service Europe BV for “10 years periodical maintenance of Alpha Lubricating System” on three MAN engines at the Fort George Power Station. The contract, worth USD 261,301.53 (approximately Rs 12 million at the current exchange rate), was awarded on 2 February 2023. The maintenance work on the three engines was carried out between 9 August and 15 September 2023 by two technical teams from Hyundai Global Service Europe BV.
