As announced in the Budget 2024/25, a monthly School Allowance of Rs 2,000 will be paid by the government to children who have reached the age of three years until the month they reach the age of ten years.

To benefit from this allowance, an eligible parent must make an electronic application to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for his/her eligible child. The online facility is operational from this Wednesday, July 3.

To enable the MRA to make payment of the allowance, an eligible parent is required to submit a single application and provide details of the eligible child's bank account or details of the bank account held jointly by the eligible child and their eligible parent.

If a parent has multiple eligible children, separate applications must be submitted for each eligible child. Once the required information is provided, a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the provided mobile number, and this OTP will need to be inserted to proceed with the application.

An eligible parent should ensure they have the following to hand: their National Identification Card (NIC), their mobile phone, the eligible child's National Identification Number and details of the child's bank account, held in their name or jointly with them and their eligible parent.

Eligible parents who are unable to submit an application are requested to email fsu@mra.mu.

The MRA Help Desk Helpline is also available at 207 6000 during business hours from 08:45 to 16:30 on weekdays to assist applicants.
