An overwhelming majority of members of the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation (MTTF) voted against the development of the Tamil Cultural Centre in Côte d'Or. By 110 votes to 6, they rejected the government's proposal.

The members of the federation maintain that the government must grant them the original site at Reduit Triangle for the construction of the Tamil Cultural Centre. Their special general assembly, held at Reduit yesterday, Sunday, July 7, was attended by 137 delegates from the “Kovils” across the country.

In a statement to RadioPlus on Monday, July 8, the president of the federation, Coomarah Chengan, announced that a letter will be sent to the Prime Minister's office to inform him of this decision. A peaceful demonstration is also planned.

At 4:30 p.m., RadioPlus was still waiting for the Ministry of Lands and Housing's version on this matter.
