A man stole a 73-year-old retiree's motorcycle on Monday, July 1. But about nine hours later, while riding the stolen motorcycle, Pooshkar Jaunky, 29, a resident of Goodlands, was involved in a road accident. He collided with a car driven by a 44-year-old woman on the main Trois-Bras road in Petit-Raffray shortly before 9 p.m.

Seriously injured, he was taken to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital, where he was kept under observation. Police arrested him and an officer is monitoring him at the hospital. Pooshkar Jaunky, 29, confessed to stealing the motorcycle. The drivers' blood alcohol tests were negative.

Police arrived at the scene of the accident in Trois-Bras, Petit-Raffray, around 9:30 p.m. on Monday. The driver of the car said the motorcyclist hit her vehicle head-on. She showed that the motorcycle collided with the rear of her vehicle.

After confirming the identity of the motorcyclist, police noted that he was wanted in connection with several motorcycle thefts. Police quickly realised that the motorcycle was a stolen one that had been reported earlier on Monday 1 July by a 73-year-old pensioner. The red motorcycle was stolen from a supermarket car park in Goodlands. Police plan to view CCTV footage from the location to assist with the investigation.
