The Puddle Pirates team won the 24h By Webcup Maurice 2024 competition. The awards ceremony took place on Saturday May 18, 2024 at the premises of the Orange Business company in Ébène. Omrawoo Hiranyadaa, Khemisha Gunesh, Divankar Ramhit and Priyesh Latchooman share prizes worth Rs 80,000. They have developed a website on an original theme.
“We were tasked with creating a resale website for Ken's belongings after his divorce from Barbie. We used Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Symfony and MySQL technologies and frameworks. One of our innovative ideas to stand out from our competitors and traditional e-commerce was to allow users to make their purchases according to the different parts of Barbie's Dreamhouse. Despite the stress of the competition and not having slept for 24 hours, we had fun developing the site, because the theme was unusual and very fun. The main thing is that despite the extreme fatigue at the end of the competition, we were very proud of our team and the work put in. We encourage people to participate in the 24h By Webcup, as it is an opportunity to showcase their creativity and really test their potential. We look forward to representing our island in the regional final,” said Divankar Ramhit, captain of the Puddle Pirates team, in a statement relayed by the organizers through a press release.
24h By Webcup is an annual web development competition that brings together participants from the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion and Rodrigues. The qualifying phases took place simultaneously on each of these islands on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5, 2024. The best team from each territory qualifies for the regional final. Like every year, it is at the start of the competition that the teams discover the theme of the website that they must develop in 24 hours. This year, the teams drew two themes and then chose one of them. 334 participants divided into 111 teams, including 21 in Mauritius, competed this year across the islands of the Indian Ocean.
