The Mauritian government has given its go-ahead for the signing of an agreement with Benin on visa exemption. This agreement concerns holders of diplomatic, official, service and ordinary passports. Nationals of both countries, holders of these passports, will thus be able to enter, exit, transit and stay without a visa in the territory of the other country for a period not exceeding 90 days, during any period of 180 days from the date of their first entry.

Benin, an African country covering an area of ​​114,763 km², stretches 700 km from the Niger River in the north to the Atlantic coast in the south. As of 2021, its population was approximately 13,301,694. The country is part of the ECOWAS member states and has as neighbors Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Niger to the northeast, and Burkina Faso to the northwest.
