The new leader of the opposition, Arvin Boolell, launched the budget debates in the National Assembly this morning, June 10, 2024. According to the leader of the Labor Party, the Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy, ignored certain recommendations of the International Monetary Fund and allegedly misled the population during the presentation of its latest budget. He also deplores the absence of measures on salary readjustment in the 2024-25 Budget.

Arvin Boolell also claims that the government has not been transparent regarding the origin of funding for the various measures announced, as well as their impact on public debt, the depreciation of the rupee and inflation.

Although the opposition supports the announced social measures, it remains skeptical about their financial viability, underlines Arvin Boolell.
