Yohan Kumar Bhundoo is described as an ambitious, resourceful and hardworking young person by those around him. On the day of the accident that took his life, he was celebrating his 16th birthday. After blowing out his candles, he went out to share with his friends slices of the cake he had cut with his family.

But destiny decided otherwise. His father, Sanjay Kumar Bhundoo, is devastated. Now that Yohan is dead, all he has left is his eldest son, aged 20. Young Yohan was just a child when he lost his mother to cancer.

Sanjay Bhundoo found himself raising his sons alone. The two were very complicit. “His big brother is shot,” confides the father, just as affected by this tragic disappearance.

Yohan Bhundoo was juggling his studies and a job. Passionate about mechanics, he bought a motorcycle about a year ago. Raj Chitamun, president of the village of Bel-Étang, expresses his deep sadness, he who always gave advice to the teenager. “He bought a motorcycle for Rs 6,000. He said it was to help him out. But I always advised him to be careful when he drove,” he explains.

“I ask young people who ride motorcycles to think of their families, relatives and friends when they go out because something bad can happen quickly. I myself alerted the authorities on several occasions but no action was taken,” he is indignant.

He said that on Thursday, the teenager celebrated his birthday and cut a cake at home before going out with his friend to share slices with his friends. “The accident happened on the way. I called him that evening, but he didn't take my calls. I suspected that it was already too late,” says the village president.

He remembers young Yohan Bhundoo as someone extremely endearing. “He lost his mother very young. Despite this, he worked hard while continuing his studies. He was employed with us in a factory. As soon as he left college around 3 p.m., he came to work. He had a fierce desire to be autonomous,” he recalls.

The autopsy concluded that the young man died from his multiple injuries. His funeral took place Friday afternoon.

In Petit-Paquet, in the Montagne-Blanche region, Bilal Hosany's family is in shock. Especially since the young man died ten years after the death of his father, which occurred in the same circumstances. “Around ten years ago, his father died in an accident in Haute-Rive. He was also on a motorcycle and had lost control. Bilal was only eight years old at the time. He was an only child. So only him and his mother remained,” confides a family friend.

Mother and son supported each other. “His mother is inconsolable,” adds the friend. The sudden disappearance of the young man, appreciated for his joie de vivre, his good humor and his love for motorcycles, deeply upset his loved ones and the entire neighborhood.

Bilal Hosany was extremely interested in motorcycles. “He had bought his some time before. He had many friends who shared the same passion as him,” explains a resident. The young man was very popular in the region. “I knew him as a child. She was a calm person who was always on a motorcycle,” says another friend of the victim.

An autopsy performed Friday morning attributed the young man's death to multiple injuries. His funeral took place in the afternoon. His friends, also motorcycle enthusiasts, were present at the funeral. “The whole village of Montagne-Blanche is in mourning,” says one of them.
