Many young people face online harassment, cyberbullying, sextortion and the disclosure of pornographic content.

Many of them are between 12 and 15 years old and are connected to more than 3,000 to 5,000 people on their social media accounts, most of whom are people they don't know in real life. This is what Sachin Reekhaye, IT security consultant at CERT-MU, said on Radio Plus this Wednesday.

He deplores an increase in the number of these types of cases in recent years. Many adults, for their part, are victims of online scams, he added.

Note that the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) recorded 1,887 cases of cybercrimes from January to May 2024.

Sachin Reekhaye, on the other hand, stressed that CERT-MU is innovative in its approach to raise awareness among the population, particularly young people in primary and secondary schools.
