Despite multiple appeals from the Electoral Commission, few people are inclined to check whether their names appear on the electoral register. This is what Irfan Rahman underlines.
Irfan Raman recalls that to facilitate this process, 43 registration centers are open across the island, including the Commission office in Port Louis.
During the last general elections in 2019, 6,813 people were not registered on the electoral list and were therefore unable to exercise their right to vote.
Irfan Rahman continues his meetings with political parties
Irfan Abdool Rahman initiated meetings with various political parties to discuss the counting of votes on the day of the general elections. Last week he met with the Reform Party, Linion Moris, Lalit, One Moris, New Democrats and the Citizens' Forum. On Monday, he met the Tamil Council.
This week, meetings are planned with Rezistans ek Alternativ and the Union Sociale Mauricien on Tuesday; with the Patriotic Movement and the Mauritian Solidarity Front on Wednesday; with the MMM and the Labor Party on Thursday; and with the Voice of Hindu, En Avant Moris and the PMSD on Friday. The electoral commissioner will meet representatives of the MSM and ML next Monday.
The Electoral Commission indicates that some confirmations are still pending and that it contacts the parties the day before to ensure their presence.
Any person who is 18 years old or who will be 18 years old on or before August 15, 2023.
