A Steering Committee has been set up to combat human trafficking. The committee will be chaired by the Secretary of Home Affairs.

This decision was endorsed by the Council of Ministers on Friday, July 5. The functions of this committee will be:

•⁠ ⁠Coordinate the development, regular review and implementation of national policies and activities to combat trafficking in persons.
•⁠ ⁠Ensure coordination between public authorities in order to improve the effectiveness of existing policies to combat trafficking in persons.
•⁠ ⁠Coordinate with stakeholders to identify victims of human trafficking.
•⁠ ⁠Assess the needs and protection of victims of human trafficking.
•⁠ ⁠Collect and analyse statistics and other information from relevant authorities to assess the effectiveness of policies and measures to combat trafficking in persons.
•⁠ ⁠Make recommendations for legislative, regulatory and policy reforms to combat human trafficking.
