Robert Badinter, the former Minister of Justice who brought about the abolition of the death penalty in France in 1981, died on the night of Thursday to Friday, we learned from a colleague.

Aged 95, Minister of Justice under socialist President François Mitterrand, he was also former President of the Constitutional Council.
