  • Two Malagasy people who were on foot hospitalized

Two days after being involved in a hit-and-run in Riche-Terre, Terre-Rouge, injuring two Malagasy nationals, James Felix Riacca, alias Tipo, a 33-year-old resident of Tamarin, was arrested by the Crime Intelligence Cell. He was arrested in a shopping centre on Tuesday, July 2. When confronted by the police, he quickly confessed to the facts. “Momem ti pe kondir loto kinn fer aksidan, monn per, monn sove,” he confided before being handed over to the Terre-Rouge police.

The accident occurred around 3am on Sunday 30th June. Driving his car, James Felix Riacca knocked down two Malagasy men aged 27 and 33 who were on foot, before fleeing, leaving them behind. Alerted, the police found the two injured Malagasy pedestrians. They were admitted to the SSRN hospital. The health of the two victims is considered serious by the treating physicians. They were placed in intensive care.

The police investigation allowed investigators to find a witness to the accident. The latter was able to provide the sleuths with a description as well as the registration number of the car involved. This is how on Tuesday, a Mini Cooper corresponding to the description was able to be traced on the parking area of ​​a shopping center. The various accesses were placed under police surveillance and James Felix Riacca was arrested shortly after.

The Tamarin resident was detained at the Terre-Rouge police station. In the coming days, he will provide his version to the police in the presence of a lawman. The investigation, led by Inspector Mohess, is under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dhaneswar Oomeer of the Terre-Rouge police.
