David Varden's journey in the clothing industry has been full of challenges and opportunities. The launch of the Jump brand in April 2022 marked a crucial turning point in his career. After weathering the storm of the Covid-19 pandemic, he faced another major obstacle when his business was ravaged by a fire at the Caudan Waterfront in October 2021. But, instead of letting these failures get him down , David Varden took up the challenge with determination. “The question 'to jump or not to jump?' echoed in my mind. This is how I chose the name Jump, giving birth to a new chapter in the history of my company,” explains our interlocutor. Founded on the principles of being brave, taking risks and being stylish, the Jump brand symbolizes the adventurous spirit of its founder. “Specializing in urban and streetwear style, it quickly established itself as a reference for the young generation looking for trendy and innovative clothing,” he points out.

Seven points of sale

With seven points of sale strategically distributed across the island, including Caudan Waterfront, Grand-Baie, Flacq, Quatre-Bornes, Curepipe and two points of sale in Rose-Hill, Jump has established itself as an essential force in the commercial landscape of Mauritius. “Moreover, for me, my employees are not just workers, but partners, and together we form a dedicated and passionate team,” says David Varden.

Indeed, the young entrepreneur's professional career has been shaped by his passion for fashion since he was young. Coming from a family of tailors, he grew up playing in his father's tailoring workshop, absorbing the finer points of the art of denim and bespoke tailoring. “My passion led me to make my debut in a clothing production company, where I rose through the ranks for seven years before taking the reins of my own destiny with Jump,” he rejoices.

Creative approach to marketing

One of the major challenges the business leader faced was attracting young customers to a new and innovative product. To achieve this, he took a creative approach to marketing, producing music videos with a videographer from India, featuring extras wearing Jump clothing in everyday scenarios. In addition, he sponsored many local artists and participated in fashion shows. “This bold strategy has allowed Jump to stand out in a competitive market,” he says.

According to the latter, despite current economic challenges, Jump thrives thanks to its commitment to innovation and quality. “Producing unique cuts and designs allows the brand to stand out in a market saturated with imported clothing,” he says. Furthermore, the recent expansion in the production of uniforms for businesses testifies to the entrepreneur's ability to anticipate market trends and diversify his activities.

Personal life

Outside of his work, David Varden is a family man. “Married for eight years, I manage to find a balance between my work and my personal life,” he says. A fan of video games and manga, he also finds time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. “In my free time, I like to walk on the beach with my wife and my two sons aged five years and ten months respectively, or share a family meal at the restaurant,” confides our interlocutor.
