With an overall score of 1.577, Mauritius is the most peaceful country in Africa for 2024, notes Global Peace Index. Next come Madagascar, Botswana, Ghana and Zambia. Globally, the country ranks 22nd. “Overall, there are now 56 conflicts, the highest number since World War II. These conflicts have become increasingly international, with 92 countries involved in disputes beyond their borders – the largest number since the inception of this index,” the report says. Other data: 97 countries saw their level of peace deteriorate and 108 states became more militarized. In the first four months of 2024, global conflict-related deaths totaled 47,000.
