Tragic end for a 79-year-old driver. Seriously injured in a road accident in Goodlands on Wednesday afternoon, Marie Danielle Dupont did not survive her injuries.

During a trip on the highway towards Port-Louis, the driver lost control of her car, before the vehicle left the road and ended up hitting a tree on the side of the road. The impact was violent and the septuagenarian suffered significant injuries. She was rushed to a local private clinic, where she was admitted. Firefighters had to intervene to clear the road with the help of the police.

The septuagenarian was then transferred to a clinic in Plaines-Wilhems. She died there around 2 a.m. on Friday, May 31. The autopsy performed by Principal Police Medical Officer (PPMO) Maxwell Monvoisin attributed the death to abdominal injuries sustained during the accident.
