The law is that you need a international drivers licence, but sometimes they close their eyes. But if you have time to get one before you come to Mauritius , take it otherwise take the one you have and see 👀 😉 what happens.
My Italian driver’s licence was valid without any other request for other documents
My English license has been checked a few times by road side police and they have been happy with it.
We went to the post office on Friday as we wanted one just to be safe. Surprisingly they didn’t make an international drivers license for us because Mauritius is not in their list for it 😊

My Australian driver’s licence was ok had no problems
Normally you should have one. Maybe some police officers are lenient
SADC countries no. As long as it’s in English.
UK license is fine in most countries in the world.
