The first Copilot+ PC computers will be marketed by Microsoft in certain markets in the coming months. The American firm announces a new function available in these devices, and it should create controversy. This is the Recall function. The latter will create a screenshot every five seconds. These screenshots will be stored in the computer's hard drive. Recall will analyze them when the user later wishes to find a document, an email or a website that they have consulted.

But this function could be considered intrusive since the system will always know what the user is doing on their computer. Furthermore, there is a risk that these screenshots will leak if the computer is hacked.

Microsoft wants to be reassuring, according to Agence France Presse (AFP). It will indeed be possible to exclude applications and websites from Recall screenshots. It will be possible to block certain sites and filter activities on Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera web browsers. It will also be possible to configure the amount of hard drive space that Recall is allowed to use to store these screenshots. Their recording will automatically stop once the threshold of 25 gigabytes (GB) of available storage space is reached.
