The Mauritian authorities are on alert this Thursday afternoon after radars spotted a bulk carrier, currently adrift 12 nautical miles from Blue Bay.

The Sibulk Tradition, flying the Panamanian flag, experienced an engine failure since this morning. According to Inspector Shiva Coothen of the Police Press Office, the Mauritian authorities are in radio contact with the vessel, through the National Coast Guard (NCG).

The ship's captain confirmed an engine failure and assured that it would be repaired in the afternoon. Currently, the police helicopter is flying over the area.

In the meantime, concern remains as dusk approaches, especially since the wind is blowing in an east-southeast direction at 28 km per hour. A situation that pushes the ship towards our shores.

As a reminder, the boat comes from Brazil and is heading towards Malaysia.
