The Danish firm Burmeister and Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) was fined 1.3 million euros, the equivalent of Rs 65 million, for bribes paid to Mauritian politicians and civil servants. A sum of Rs 4.3 million is mentioned. The case is directly linked to the St-Louis thermal power plant. The verdict was delivered by the Danish courts. An investigation has been conducted into this case since 2019.

Let us recall that on June 8, 2020, the AfDB reported “fraudulent and corrupt” practices surrounding the project to install four turbines at the St-Louis thermal power plant. This contract, costing Rs 4.3 billion, was won by the Danish firm BWSC following a call for tenders. It was the AfDB that had financed this project. This affair led to the dismissal of Ivan Collendavelloo from his post as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Services.
