Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy announced a “Survivor Support Scheme” of Rs 5,000 for victims of domestic violence while presenting the Budget 2024-25.

Mélanie Valère-Cicéron, president of Passerelle, thinks that this small step forward can bring minor changes. However, she mentions that there should have been a support program, or even rather housing assistance.

The president of SOS Papa, Darmen Appadoo, focuses on domestic violence among men in Mauritius. He considers this subject to be taboo. He also wonders if the allocation of Rs 5,000 will not become a “business”.
