Keir Starmer is the favourite to become the next British Prime Minister in the general election. Former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Satyajit Boolell, who knew the Labour Party leader personally, says a friendship has developed over the years with Keir Starmer, as they have worked together on various issues between their two countries since 2010, when they were both DPPs.
Mr Satyajit Boolell claims that Keir Starmer was impressed by the respect for democracy in Mauritius as well as the independent judiciary. Keir Starmer had also come to Mauritius for the Rajsoomer Lallah Annual Memorial Lecture in 2013, the former DPP said.
Me Satyajit Boolell also believes that with the good image that Keir Starmer has kept of Mauritius, this will help to establish a constructive dialogue on the diplomatic level between the two countries, particularly on the Chagos issue.
