hi, the wife and I are off to Ambre next year but we are starting to hear some things that are starting to put us off like very dated rooms ,the hygiene of the pool is meant to be quite bad, and the evening entertainment is quite shabby I know you can’t believe all that you read .

Arlene Rodger answered 8 months ago

It is true and a lot off staff do not know what they are meant to be doing at bars and restaurants. They are meant to be starting refurbishing the room toilet area but things are so expensive to buy out there for these kind of projects.

Just came bk from ambre. It was lovely! Pool was very clean, entertainment was good, staff were amazing, food lovely, I suggest booking the Italian as much as u can as very lovely, buffet nice enough tho, lots of choices. Rooms absolutely fine for wat is needed, huge bathroom n shower good pressure! Literally no complaints!

We went last year for 2nd year on island but 2st visit to Ambre, its dated, the buffet is awful, the staff are not the most helpful and half the bar staff have no clue what they are doing & end up pouring drinks over you! The beach area is small & so many rocks so be careful, very dangerous. When we was there, there wasnt enough sun beds but i think they added more since. The food in the buffet needs to be checked as we had under cooked chicken served to us & others staying at same time. Lunch menu on the beach is awful, i would have a better meal in Mcdonalds! We said its a 3* at best but no way is it a 4* hotel! We would never return here & i would not recommend it at all!

We are the same we have booked and are seriously thinking about changing hotels , we have paid alot of money from the uk and this is worrying

I would tend to agree with rooms dated, entertainment was not the best for the 2 weeks we were there, hotel is remote. Buffet was average at best and staff in buffet area were not too good, quite lazy in fact tables left not cleared. Sunbeds reserved from 5:15, pool was clean and beach was nice. I personally would not return based on my experience. Agree that Italian restaurant was much better than buffet.

I went earlier this year and I loved it, it’s 4 star and is just what I’d expect 4 star to be, the same as all places some staff are better than others, however overall we loved I. It’s one of the few holidays I would do again. Read between the lines on the reviews. Our room was dated however you can upgrade whilst booking to a premium room, we didnt bother because we had all we needed. The beach and cabanas were actually the highlight for me, it was stunning ..

Maxine Long I’m sure you can recommend a good one

We are book for early next year also. Try not to worry. There are more good reviews then bad. How bad can anything be when your be in Mauritius with a drink in your hand 🙌

Beverley Goulding answered 8 months ago

I’m off there tomorrow, but I have been reading more good than bad reviews on TA. Have heard the rooms are dated but as long as they are clean. Tbh I looked for months as a lot of the hotels didn’t have favourable reviews.

Beachcomber Victoria is 4 star, sounds better deal

We went in February this year and we are going again Feb 24. Absolutely loved it. The whole place was spotlessly clean and the staff can’t do enough for you. I can’t wait to go back!

Fifi Nitram answered 8 months ago

Don’t worry it’s a beautiful resort we’ve been home a week and would go back in a heartbeat 😊😎

Do what I do and go with a low expectation, so anything better is a bonus, we are off to Mauritius for the first time June 24, not to this hotel but I avidly read people’s comments on what to do or watch out for, your holiday is what you make it, dont rely on others to do it for you, I’m sure you wiill have a ball anyway…🏝🌞😁

We stayed at the Ambre in October, although a lovely clean hotel, pool area clean and beach lovely the buffet food let it down for us. Italian restaurant food was nice but service not great same at the pool bar be prepared to wait for drinks. We wouldn’t return to this hotel due to the food issue

Leanna Dawes answered 8 months ago

We were there in October the rooms are what you expect for a 4 star on the island, buffet restaurant one of the best I have had on an AI, the other 2 restaurants were good. We spent everyday on the beach so unable to comment on pool. Entertainment we never paid any attention to as was down at the beach bar in an evening

In my experience, some people can always find fault, last time I stayed at Ambre some guests we talked to were unhappy about a few things, my wife and I hadn’t experienced any such issues. Anyway we’re booked to go back next March, no plans to change our booking and can’t wait for our return in March.

We stayed there in September, this was our fourth visit to Mauritius and the first to Ambre. Yes some of the rooms are dated, but that shouldn’t deter you. The bar on the beach is brilliant, a great place to meet up, not to make lifelong friends, but just have a laugh and discuss your day. All in all Ambre is what you make of it. If you play golf, then make sure you get to Ill de cerfs, it’s superb and the free green fees is a real gift. Go with an open mind and enjoy.
