QuestionsAccommodation-HotelsEast or west coast to stay?
Anonymous asked 7 months ago

We are really trying to decide on a hotel for August. Mauritius looks beautiful but we are struggling with east coast or west coast? Are the coasts really very different? Also have been offered heritage on the south coast but is north coast better! We want to be able to relax on the beach so don’t want gale force winds! Getting very confused and going round in circles! Any help would be appreciated ☺️

You need North or West coast in August, to avoid the trade winds on the East.
Depending on what your needs are

East coast extremely windy parts of the year. North-west coast in my opinion is the best.

West is best in the Mauritian winter 😁

We stayed at Victoria beachcomber in August last year on the west side.
Weather was beautiful and no wind.

If you have a good budget le morne

Mirella Armance answered 7 months ago

East coast is one of the most beautiful but very windy in august.

I’ll offer an alternative view – we were there in late March on the East Coast at the Shandrani and the wind made the hot humid weather really comfortable. One day was dramatically windy(awesome sea on the wild beach!) but for the rest of the time it was just perfect.

Do not go to the East Coast – very windy at that time of the year – go to the North

We stayed at Mauricia Beachcomber in August and loved it. We also visited Victoria Beachcomber and Cannonier Beachcomber as you can use your all inclusive at these hotels too – they were both amazing too. If we were to go back we’d stay at the Cannonier because the beach areas surrounding the hotel were stunning and the hotel itself.
Our weather was almost always perfect – however obviously with the island being tropical the weather changes frequently so rain comes and goes when it wants 😊

We stayed at Grand Baie – Veranda Grand Baie Hotel & Spa and went in August. Amazing hotel and area. The weather was amazing.

Marylyn Ducasse-Hunter answered 7 months ago

The north coast is best

Luna LM answered 7 months ago

Totally different. For August: don’t struggle! Book west coast.

Jayne Hampton answered 7 months ago

We always go to Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa
Although it’s south it’s in it’s own lagoon in Blue Bay.
The wild beach is amazing, the Sirius beach has some kayaks etc but we’ve never had a bad holiday in August there. Not as busy as later in the year.
DM if you want some more info 😎

If you’re looking for a 5 star resort in the North West I’d highly recommend The Westin. We’ve just come back from there (we are repeat guests) and it was 👌

I went in June and going again in June I stayed on the East Coast at Salt of Palmer. Beautiful hotel yes windy but its not a cold wind. The staff are great hence my return again this year.

Pearle Beach or LA Pirogue is the best

Dave answered 7 months ago

for august , first choice is North and Northwest – temperature is good , less windy . The beaches are great and there is a good choice outside the resort hotels as well so you can relax well . You can use this area as a base to visit and explore the west , east and south . the island has many attractions and activities worth doing and easy to get around .

We are in the north east just now and after travelling around west (south west eapecially) is definitely where we wish we had chosen x

I’ve been trying to decide for two weeks. We’ll probably end up going to Zanzibar again 🤣

West is best with beautiful sunsets.
Flic en Flac area is my preferred area.
