QuestionsGeneral-MiscLooking for a flat/house to rent
VersatileQuestioner asked 8 months ago

Hi, I’m looking to rent an apartment or house (1-2bhk) within a Rs10k per month budget in Plaine Wilhems for a year. On which websites or companies can I look for a reliable accommodation? What are few tips and tricks when choosing an accommodation? Edit: Also what would be a reasonable syndic fee for 1-2 bhk? Thanks

10k for a year??? Or per month. If its per month no worries you’ll get something

Honestly, I think it will be difficult to find something in that budget in Plaine Wilhems.

If you do, note that it won’t be modern and most likely not furnished. I have been looking around Beau Bassin, Quatre Bornes, Rose Hill areas and the prices are all above 20k for something decent and almost all are unfurnished. There is the option of flat sharing, but it’s not common in Mauritius. It also depends on age/stage of life/culture, and I think it’s not a very common thing in the Mauritian culture. I did exclusively flat share for many years until I was like 27 before returning to Mauritius and I ended up staying with my parents because of the ridiculously high rental costs relative to salaries here.

If you are considering moving out, maybe try to look at getting a loan and finance your own place. That makes much more sense than renting.

10k isn’t going to be easy, albeit you can find some properties around Curepipe for about 12 – 15k

You can also consider getting a flatmate if that makes things easier.

Keeping an eye out on real estate websites can help you find some decent listings, but avoid agents, if you find a good property, just swing by, see if you can find the owner’s contact number and speak to them directly.

Also check out relevant Facebook pages, you can find some decent listings over there as well.

Lexpress Property, PropertyCloud, Facebook Marketplace.

You might find something in that price range but it will either be unfurnished or quite far from the main roads and amenities.

There are 7 small stone pyramids in Mauritius on the south side on a flat plain known as Plaine Magnien. Only discovered recently, nobody is quite sure about their origins.
