Ask a lot of questions about your 5 island boat trip to make sure you’re getting the best experience for the price. For example: - what kind of boat you’ll be going on - speed boat or catamaran etc to make sure you get your preference - is it a shared boat or private? - will you have access to walk on the islands you visit or does it have to be prearranged? - is snorkelling equipment provided? - what is provided at lunch? Is lobster included? Not all tours provide the same lunch. Had an enjoyable trip on 5 islands tour but didn’t get to do everything that other tours were doing so felt a bit disappointed. No “extra” options were mentioned so thought I’d share here. Paid over 5000 MUR per person.

I have never done that trip. While I was still living in Mauritius the fee rounded to 2500 on average per person. But that was lodging, 2 meals a day plus the trip included per head. This number is from 6 years ago when I was interested in that trip myself. It is appalling that ripping tourists is what we have resorted to.

The sugarcane plantations in Mauritius were originally worked upon mostly by slaves. After the abolition of slavery in 1835, the British brought over more than half a million labourers from India, whose descendants form the largest community in Mauritius today.
