The Ministry of the Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change has responded to the fuel oil spill at a mouth in Pointe-aux-Sables, observed on the morning of Tuesday, July 2.

“According to the preliminary investigation, an estimated quantity of 20 liters of heavy fuel oil was spilled,” the ministry said in a statement issued this afternoon. “There is no oil in the lagoon,” it said. It added: “To contain the oil, elements of the National Coast Guard and those of the Special Mobile Force deployed a total of 21 meters of absorbent booms and approximately 160 absorbent pads in the spill area.”

According to the preliminary investigation, the spill occurred in one of the clothing factories, located in Pointe-aux-Sables, the press release reads. The situation is under control, the ministry says.
