Officer-in-charge of the Road Development Authority, Das Mootanah was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Metro Express Ltd in mid-May 2018. After six years in this position, he resigned on Tuesday.

Das Mootanah says he made the decision to leave “after careful consideration”, following a new opportunity that was recently offered to him.

“It is of course with a heavy heart that I will say goodbye to all those with whom I worked day and night to make this project a success among so many challenges,” he adds.

In a message posted Tuesday evening on his Facebook page, he said he was “very proud of our achievements at MEL, including the delivery of the largest and most complex infrastructure project in Mauritius on time and on a record budget. We successfully completed Phase 1 in October 2019 and commercial operations began in January 2020, followed by the delivery of the other phases until Phase 3 in January 2023. The metro has been fully operational for over a year, serving thousands of people daily.”

Das Mootanah adds that it is “proud of our sustainability initiatives, including the development of the Ebène multidisciplinary recreational park, multiple social parks along the alignment and the solar project. Through the Metro Express project, a new era of engineering and innovation has emerged, providing transferable skills in engineering, project management, innovative leadership, change management, risk management, stakeholder management, collaborative working techniques , integrated operations planning, insurance and asset maintenance”.
