Once again, opposition questions were not included in the list of parliamentary questions. For Tuesday's session, two of them that were sent did not find their place.
The first comes from Labor MP, Osman Mahomed, who wants to know if the Minister of Transport has opened an investigation to find out the reason for the lack of submission of the financial statements of Metro Express Ltd (MEL) since 2021 to the Registrar of Companies.

“I have not received any explanation so far. I have asked to meet the Speaker. According to the Standing Orders, if something is not clear, an MP has the right to ask the Speaker for an explanation,” Osman Mahomed said on Friday afternoon.

A question from Joanna Bérenger, MMM MP, was also not retained for Tuesday's session. It concerns the recruitment of a human resources manager at the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority. The question was directed to Mahen Seeruttun, Minister of Agro-Industry.

Note that last week too, a question from Joanna Bérenger was not accepted. This was addressed to the Minister of the Environment, Kavi Ramano, and was worded as follows: “Regarding EIA (Environment Impact Assessment) requests, will he indicate how many certificates supporting were these requests issued by the office of notary Me Kavydass Ramano? »

During Tuesday's session, the Speaker, Sooroojdev Phokeer, was to criticize Joanna Bérenger for speaking out in the press on this subject. He had to clarify that under Standing Order 21(4), the admissibility of questions rests with the Speaker.

“I must draw the attention of honourable members to the fact that the President ensures that all questions are in accordance with the rules provided for in Standing Orders 21 and 22,” he was to say.
