Interim charges against the former acting director of the Central Electricity Board were withdrawn on Tuesday, June 25. The event that marked the Muvman Liberater (ML) on Tuesday June 25 was the withdrawal of provisional charges against the former Acting General Manager of the Central Electricity Board (CEB), Shamshir Mukoon. He was forced to leave his position in 2020, linked to the issue of purchasing engines from the Danish firm BWSC. VS

Reached by telephone, the president of ML, Toolsyraj Benydin, spoke frankly. “All members of the ML are impatient, because we have been waiting too long for our leader Ivan Collendavelloo to be exonerated. We want this case to move forward quickly. This is the wish of activists and members of the ML. We do not want to put pressure on the institutions, but we want to be fixed,” he says.

Unlike Shamshir Mukoon, the ML leader was never arrested in the Saint-Louis affair. However, like the former interim General Manager of the CEB, Ivan Collendavelloo was also forced to resign. This is after a report from the African Development Bank (AfDB) accused him of corruption in the matter. Although he has denied any involvement and maintains that he was forced to resign as Deputy Prime Minister unfairly, Ivan Collendavelloo is awaiting a decision from the Financial Crime Commission. It took over the case after the dissolution of the Independent Commission against Corruption (Icac). Three years after the start of the Saint-Louis affair, Ivan Collendavelloo was summoned for the very first time to the premises of the former Icac in October 2023. This situation accentuates the frustration of the ML and Ivan's close collaborators Collendavelloo. “At this point, it’s a total blur. We do not know under what conditions the ML will present itself in the next general elections nor if the Militant Socialist Movement still counts on us as an ally,” explains our source.

In addition to the Saint-Louis affair, the ML was confronted with the embarrassment caused by the creation of the Linite Militant platform led by the Obeegadoo-Ganoo tandem. He was initially supported by Ivan Collendavelloo and the ML. However, disagreements led to their exclusion, notably due to the support of the Minister of Transport, Alan Ganoo, for his protégé Parzwez Nunoo in constituency no. 13 (Rivière-des-Anguilles/Souillac). This decision was not well received by the ML, which already has a potential candidate in this region in the person of MP Ismael Rawoo.
