This year, 58 candidates indicated their intention to take the Higher School Certificate (HSC) Professional, compared to 37 last year. This exam has been offered to Mauritian candidates since 2015. The 2023 batch saw a 100% success rate with the introduction of two scholarships. These were offered to Siddhish Jogiah of Keats College and Nolwenn Lagaillarde of Lorette College in Mahébourg.

Those who choose to take the HSC Professional are opting for a different pathway after the School Certificate (SC). They are therefore entitled to training adapted to the world of work.

For Anil, a teacher at a private college in Curepipe, it is a course that should interest more students because of its accessibility. “It is an alternative to the traditional HSC. It offers students opportunities to be open to the job market through the internships that are offered…”

In addition, the School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations start on September 19 with the practical tests and will end on November 15 and 14 respectively. According to the figures, for the SC, there will be about 14,880 candidates compared to 13,095 in 2023. For the HSC, there will be 8,467 compared to 7,528 last year. Students have received their provisional time table. They must now read it, check if their name and date of birth are correct. In addition, they must check if the examinations for certain subjects are not at the same time. If this is the case, they must inform the college heads. The latter will inform the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate to review the situation. There will be arrangements to ensure that students are not penalized.
